What’s your Philosophy on Money?

17 Jun

I listened to this interview with Tim Ferris last week and it’s interesting to hear him say how he thinks about investing. I share some of his ideas.

Like:

  • The number one reason to invest is to improve your quality of life
  • Not all types of investing are suitable for you

Have a listen:

Last week I read…

I was reading Robinson Crusoe last week, the main characters philosophy on money is this.

The good things of this world are only good while they are useful to us. Whatever treasures we pile up, we cab enjoy only as much as we can use, and no more.

I had far more on my island than i could use. I had no room for desire, except for a few small things which I could not have. I even had gold and silver coins, but the money just lay in the drawer, for I had no use for it.

A drawer full of diamonds would have been just as useless. But how I wished I could give it all, just for a pipe,or a few English vegetable seeds or a bottle of ink.

Social media has changed…the fashion world.

Global warming gone mad or its Fashion Week!!!Burberry Prorsum: Runway - LFW Autumn/Winter 2012

So, I was hiking in the Carpathian mountains for a week,  the weather wasn’t looking good one day, and my TV channel options were:

So, since I don’t really know much about Fashion I ended up watching quite a bit, It Fashion week in New York and a few other places.

Some things that popping up on Fashion week were the:

It seemed like quite a few bloggers were being intereviewed, which I found interesting.

Some are really young and very influential. Some said the blogs and social media have ruined it all, some say… its genius?

One stylist said as soon as he comes up with a new style in New York, someone is copying it in Hong Kong or London, this means because of social media, his turn around for a new style has shrunk from three months to a day.

And then there are the non commercial fashion pieces7a

One designer said because of social media the non commercial clothing items are now important, getting followers and likes isn’t a great a people buying, but its marketable all the same, so they have to create designs that people wont buy.

The designer said before social media she could just concentrate on items that would sell in bulk, maybe ten styles, now she has to create twenty styles.

As you can probably gather, I was having a lot of fun waiting for the rain to stop, but it gets better.

It was pouring outside…a2

With models, for an agency to be interested in a model, they need to have 10k followers on Instagram. It’s not what the agency can do for the model, but the 10k followers is valuable to the agency. Its not even looks anymore, some agencies look for all kinds of people, that can add value for them.

In his biography, Malcolm X said:

“People will give you something when you have something”

On Linked in, people will try to add when they don’t know you to access you contacts and see your groups, it gives them more visibility when searching for people, which is another story…

Life imitating art?

Another interesting I learned was a fashion school director said you don’t get inspired to design fashion from fashion, you get inspired from art, the first thing she did when she opened her fashion school was teach the students about Picasso, Matisse and Van Gogh

See what I mean?
